Group Therapy

Looking for support, understanding, and a chance to meet others…

… who are going through life experiences like your own? Like divorce, co-parenting challenges, adjusting to new life stages like retirement, empty nesting, first-time parenthood, family member caretaking, or giant career changes.

Group therapy allows members to connect with others who are struggling with similar feelings… and to receive their feedback and support. It’s a place to explore and grow with others’ support – not just a therapist, but other people just like you.

The group therapy process can facilitate individuals understanding more about themselves and others in a safe, supportive environment.

Let’s take a closer look…

A safe environment for sharing…

In a group, you explore your patterns of thinking and behaving and notice how you relate to others in your life.

You are welcome to share as much or as little about yourself while in the group; however, the more open you are, the better experience you will have.

Everyone in the group has a vested interest in creating and maintaining an environment of mutual respect and confidentiality.

Deliberate group composition…

Careful screening of each member is conducted ahead of beginning any group. The group experience is more powerful and healing when each member is prepared for it. I want to be sure each potential group member understands their responsibilities to the group, like consistent attendance and confidentiality, and understands what they can expect to happen in the group.

A pre-group screening is conducted as an individual session ahead of starting with any group. Each group offered has a different focus and flow depending on the particular group members and the particular topics being explored.

Here are some benefits you’ll get from the group setting…

Develop skills to assist you in reaching your goals…

We will cover specific techniques and teach new coping skills that you can practice with your group members before trying them out on your own.

Feel a sense of support from other group members…

When you share your very personal experiences in the group, you will be listened to, treated with respect, and acknowledged.

Understand more about yourself and your family system…

We will explore all the parts of you, all the influences on you, and the ways you are unique. You will see your true self reflected by your sympathetic group partners and be supported in reflecting thoughtfully on that valuable information.

Identify and explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that hold you back…

Disappointment, insecurity, resentment, abandonment – these powerful emotions are overwhelming. By facing them and moving through them, you can learn how to step back and examine the beliefs you hold that may contribute to your agony and stagnation.

Learn how to improve relationships with others…

Being in a group with others like you – moving through feelings, ideas, and skills together – is a unique relational experience. It teaches you about how you can connect with supportive people and effectively detach from others who are toxic or damaging to you.

These are the groups available to you…

With guidance, group members explore, interpret, and absorb the metaphors and nonverbal messages often found in their art in an intimate setting, leading to a deeper understanding of self.
